Investing in your wellness

As I turned 40 this year everyone wants to know what keeps you young? The following are some of my go to’s and things I swear by that have helped me. I grew up in a holistic household and wanted to keep looking for alternative ways and treatment to help my mind and body. The following are some of my favorites things to do. Nothing needs to be complicate, small changes at a time make a difference.

Red Light Therapy- I discovered this through one my clients over 10 years ago and after doing a few sessions I was hooked! Let me explain what it is and what it does. Think of yourself as the plant and the red light as the sun, these are the lights our body needs but cannot receive from daily light. The red light is the light you can see and the infrared red is the one you cannot see through the naked eye. The light photons are sent to the mitochondria in the cell, which is the powerhouse, then produces the energy for cell to do the work and it enhances the health. Basically imagine a flat tired cell and the light hits it making it plump and active. Without too much science the benefits include anti-aging, decreases inflammation/pain, increases antioxidant defenses, boosts fat loss, improves hormone health, supports muscle strength, increases brain health and speeds up wound healing. I do red light almost 3x a week but make sure you stay hydrated and active so your lymphatic system clears out.

Ozone Therapy- Another favorite and another one for the cells, it is a therapy to rebuild optimal cell function. Ozone can be administered various ways including through IV, injection, orally, vaginally, rectally or though skin. It is effective treating wounds, infections, chronic illnesses and viruses. Medical ozone is very popular in Europe and only available in some states in the US due to Federal Laws. I first started using Ozone through IV from my uncle who is a Homeopathic doctor as a yearly therapy. A few years back I found some protrusions on my cervical spine so I had Ozone injected directly to help with inflammation and to reduce them. I started dealing with more anxiety, adrenal fatigue so I did research and was lucky to have found Austin Ozone who provides Ozone therapy. I do the steam Ozone sauna- you sit in the sauna for 30 minutes as Ozone gets administered and our body is absorbing through the open pores in your skin. If the heat is not for you they offer a Red Light combo option with Ozone. It is recommended to do 10 sessions to get the most of it. Great for pre and post surgery! Highly recommend them if you are in Austin!

Cupping/Acupuncture- Small thin needles placed in certain points of your body to balance your energy and stimulate through the meridians. I started acupuncture about 12 years ago to reduce chronic pain and inflammation I had with my knee. It then turned to a weekly therapy session to help with my nervous system. Remember it is not a one and done, hence called therapy, but the more you do it the more benefits you will see. I cannot express how different I feel handling stress and anxiety from when I started. I hold tension on my neck and shoulders and cupping is so delightful. They are suction cups placed on your body to promote blood flow and reduce the muscle tension. The best of the best Dr. Taryn Altendorfer with Jiv Daya whole health.

AAT (Advanced Allergy Therapeutics)- I met Dr. DeYoung years ago at the same time I discovered Red Light at this office. This was a definite game changer for me. Between season allergies and sensitivities AAT haas been able to control those symptoms in my body. Working through your nervous system and meridians, no medicines, no needles, you will be able to obtain long term relief. Dr.DeYoung is able to test multiple things not just seasonal allergies! The list is endless and never thought I was gonna test positive to my implants before I had surgery and even the Noro Virus just recently. I have have treated mold, ragweed, food phenolics, stomach acids, sugar and many more. With everything aligned and AAT I am able to have less gut issues, no seasonal allergies interrupting your daily activities. If you want more info or to book in Austin you can find Dr. DeYoung at Rejuvit ATX.

Supplements- It is possible to take too much and not be effective so just break it down and alternate. My go to’s are collagen, iron, glutathione, and some kind of gut enzyme. During those peak flu or seasonal change months don’t forget to load on your Vitamin C. One of my favorite brands that offers an array of supplements is Pure Encapsulations-they are high quality and backed by science.

Skincare- Always have a good skin care routine, always take your makeup off and always wear sunscreen! I like to switch it up and keep it simple, I recently started using beef tallow as a moisturizer and love it but there is some controversy on it or your skin might not react well to it. One of my favorite brands is Kiehls, my face wash is the Calendula which is great for sensitive skin as it is an anti inflammatory, antioxidant and anti microbial. Which brings me to natural herbs as part of skincare, nature is medicine. I make my own Calendula oil in avocado oil, which is great for skin, and alternate it as my moisturizer for when my skin dries out too much. I love my Korean collagen face masks, under eye patches and my Tula brightening balms. Every morning I I will gua sha my face or use my light roller, consistency is key.

Aesthetics- Botox and Dysport. Mine wears off very fast from the amount of sweat and classes I teach so I only get them about once maybe twice a year on months I know I have something special. I used to get under eye fillers but since I was trying to reduce on toxins and before my explant surgery I tried under eye PRP injections. Loved it, highly recommend if you want something cleaner. They draw your blood, shake it up and inject the plasma it back so your own body can stimulate it’s own collagen. I have also tried the vampire facial which I loved and would do again. These don’t have to be done all the time I just do them for maintenance here and there.

Movement- Any kind of movement is great for your body, wether it is a walk outside, a Pilates class, a HIIT or strength training class ,do it. Try to stay consistent and remember why you started! Your mental health will also thank you.

Recovery- A much as we put in remember we need to also let our body rest. Maybe you just need time to sleep, get a massage, watch a movie, read a book whatever it is remember it is ok to say I need to do this for myself and take care. I love to make a hot herbal tea to unwind and watch a movie or create.

Wellness is both internal and external. Invest in yourself, your mind and body will thank you when you get older.
